UMass Minutemen team up with Rockridge for the Big Moves ~

A Feel Good Story

Wednesday, February 15, 2017

NORTHAMPTON, MA (February 8, 2017) - As Rockridge Retirement Community, a not-for-profit campus readies to open their new spacious first floor Gardens Neighborhood for those with memory impairment, they have partnered with an atypical partner; they will be teaming up with the UMass Amherst Minutemen for a special and heartwarming task.   During the week of the moving the Memory Support Assisted Living Neighborhood to the newly constructed spacious first floor with adjacent secure outdoor garden, the Minutemen will be huddling up to provide the strength and power to get the work done!

“When thinking about the logistics of moving our current residents who are living on the third floor, to thier new first floor accomodations, we found that there was a missalighnment in actually physically being able to make these transistions happen in the most effeciant and time sensative manner without help.  We have extremely tallented staff members here at Rockridge, but knew that these moves would require more muscle.  Hence contacting the Umass football team!” says Beth Vettori, Executive Director of Rockridge.  “This is a great partnership as it will expose the Minutemen to a genre that they have not necessarily been part of and will provide symbiotic interactions between the ladies and gentlemen living at Rockridge and the student athletes.”  Not only will this provide the community with the muscle power needed, but it will also give exposure to intergenerational programming, while consequently providing a  strength and conditioning session outside of the normal gym atmosphere.

The new Gardens Neighborhood is located on the first floor of a new building, with a beautiful and secure outdoor garden area where residents can enjoy nature and paved pathways.  “As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary as a Gardens Neighborhood, we are excited to open a brand new purpose-built environment, further enhancing our already fine service,” says Beth Vettori, Executive Director of Rockridge.

Rockridge Retirement Community, is a Deaconess Abundant Life Community, a not-for-profit interdenominational organization that has provided health and social services since 1889.  Established in 1971, the mission of Rockridge Retirement Community is to meet the changing needs of older adults and achieve the highest standards of excellence and leadership in the retirement health care field.

26 Suites to house the new Gardens Memory Support Neighborhood

NORTHAMPTON, MA (January 24, 2017) - Rockridge Retirement Community, a not-for-profit campus offering Independent Living, Assisted Living, Independent Apartment Rentals and Residential Care is getting ready to move its Memory Support Assisted Living Neighborhood to the newly constructed spacious first floor early February! Our new Gardens Neighborhood boasts spacious first floor living arrangements for those needing memory support. This new neighborhood provides unencumbered access to the outdoors with several areas for relaxation and engagement.

“We are so excited to be able to offer  The Gardens Neighborhood with new and modern accommodations for those in need of memory support living.  We hope people will come experience firsthand all that we have to offer and pass the word amongst their friends,” says Beth Vettori, Executive Director of Rockridge.  “This is one more way for Rockridge to be able to serve the community at large.”

The new Gardens Neighborhood is located on the first floor of this new building, with a beautiful and secure outdoor garden area where residents can enjoy nature and paved pathways.  “As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary as a Gardens Neighborhood, we are excited to open a brand new purpose-built environment, further enhancing our already fine service,” says Beth Vettori, Executive Director of Rockridge.

“At the Gardens, we understand no two people experience memory loss in the same way; nor is there one approach to care giving. That is why we have designed our Gardens Neighborhoods to be a supportive environment offering ongoing opportunities for personal meaning and a sense of community,” says Vettori.  “Our responsibilities include managing changes in behavior, daily chores, and helping residents get ready for their day in the Gardens. By providing choices and interesting activities every day, we can make sure the resident feels supported and is living as full a life as possible.”  Come and see all that our Gardens for Memory Support has to offer to Northampton and the surrounding areas.

Rockridge Expansion Continues on Schedule

The addition of Violette's Crossing and a new memory support neighborhood, The Gardens, continues to be on track for opening in late Summer 2016. Groundbreaking for Violette's Crossing and a New Memory Support Neighborhood

Rockridge to Break Ground on Violette’s Crossing
New Independent Rental Apartments for Those of Moderate Income and a New Memory Support Neighborhood

NORTHAMPTON, MA (October 28, 2015)Rockridge Retirement Community, a Deaconess Abundant Life Community, announces the addition of a new neighborhood to the campus. Violette’s Crossing will feature 25 independent rental apartments for those of moderate income. The project will also feature a new Gardens Neighborhood for Memory Support on the first floor of the building. A ceremonial groundbreaking will take place on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 3:30 PM and will be followed by light refreshments in the community room. Those expected to attend include Mayor David Narkewicz, President and CEO of Deaconess Abundant Life Communities, Christopher Sintros and John Young, the son of the late Elmo and Violette Young, founders of Rockridge Retirement Community.

Violette’s Crossing will allow residents to live independently in their own apartment while eliminating the chores often associated with home ownership. It will also give the residents an opportunity to become part of a supportive community. From extensive research, done both locally and nationally, there is a gap in providing quality housing for those considered moderate income. The Gardens Neighborhood for Memory Support will be updated and expanded to include 24 suites on the first floor as well as a private, resident accessible, secure courtyard. The Alzheimer’s Association predicts that more than 28 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer’s disease and it will consume nearly 25% of Medicare spending. By adding on the additional apartments in Violette’s Crossing and additional suites in the Gardens, Rockridge will be able to provide quality housing for seniors for years to come.

Rockridge Retirement Community, a not-for-profit campus offering Independent Living, Assisted Living, Residential Care, and The Gardens Neighborhood for Memory Support, is part of the Deaconess Abundant Life Communities, which have been serving seniors as New England Deaconess Association since 1889. Their communities – Rockridge in Northampton, Newbury Court in Concord, Seashore Point in Provincetown, Leland Home in Waltham and Wesley Woods in Gilford, NH – employ over 500 people and serve more than 500 seniors through a range of housing and service options.  For more information, call 413-586-2902 or visit the website at www.rockridgema.org.

Rockridge to Hold 2nd Annual Founders' Dinner Honoring Monte Belmonte

Rockridge Retirement Community will celebrate the 2nd Annual Founders' Dinner on Thursday, October 22 at 6 PM. The Founders' Dinner is an opportunity to recognize a community member who goes above and beyond their job description for the betterment of the Northampton area. This year, we will be honoring Monte Belmonte with the Violette Young Community Enrichment Award. Monte is best known as the morning DJ on WRSI but also well known in the community for Monte's March for the Food Bank of Western Mass and the Campout for Cancer that benefits the Cancer Connection. Recently it was announced that Monte will be taking over the Shea Theater in Turners Falls.

About the Violette Young Community Enrichment Award

Founded by Elmo & Violette Young in 1971, Rockridge has been a pillar of care and service in greater Hampshire County. As one of the first Registered Nurses for the community, one of the many programs started under Violette's leadership was the Ladies Auxiliary - which, to this day, provides vital services for the community at large. Violette's effervescent strength, compassion and sense of service is ever-present. Each year, the award will be given to an individual who exemplifies a multi-faceted set of criteria that has contributed to the betterment of the Greater Northampton area.

The Founders' Dinner is a fundraising event for Rockridge Retirement Community. For information on tickets or sponsorship opportunities, please call 413-586-2902.

Rockridge Retirement Community to Dedicate New Flag Pole

POW MIA Flag to be Added

NORTHAMPTON, MA (October 14, 2014)On Saturday, November 1, Rockridge Retirement Community in Northampton Massachusetts will dedicate a new flag pole that will be more visible to all residents at Rockridge. The project to move the flag pole was funded by donations thanks to the efforts of VET NET of Greenfield Community College and the American Legion Riders Post 224 in Easthampton MA. The American Legion Riders from Easthampton will ride in on their motorcycles to kick off the event at 9:30 AM. There will then be an official ceremony raising the American and POW MIA flag. The ceremony will be following by a showing of Honor Flight in our community room. Honor Flight is a heartwarming documentary about four living World War II veterans and a Midwest community coming together to give them the trip of a lifetime. Volunteers race against the clock to fly thousands of WWII veterans to Washington, DC to see the memorial constructed for them in 2004, nearly 60 years after their epic struggle. We will offer apple cider and doughnuts for refreshments during the film.

Rockridge is proud to count many of our residents as veterans. “When our building was originally constructed, the flag was visible for many of our residents. With our addition in 2004, many of the ladies and gentleman who served our country so honorably were unable to see the flag. Moving the flag pole and adding the POW MIA flag is a way for more of our residents to wake up to the beauty of our country’s flag while also paying tribute to those we have lost” says Beth Vettori, Executive Director of Rockridge Retirement Community.
